Woodrow Wieghat

Woodrow “Woody” Wieghat, age 72 of Van Alstyne, Texas passed away on November 23, 2012 in Van Alstyne. He was born on March 4, 1940 in Brenham, Texas to Ben and Dora (Riechers) Wieghat. At the age of six, Woody went to live with his aunt and uncle, Albin Tielke, Sr. and Emma Tielke . He married Judith Earlene Phillips on January 31, 1960 in Needville, Texas. Woody served his country in the United States Army from July, 1958 through July, 1961.  During his time in the Army, he served in Korea from January, 1960 until April, 1961 and was a member of the 82nd Airbourne Division. After his military service he worked for Southwestern Bell, AT&T and retired from Lucent in 1989.

 

Woody is survived by his wife, Judith “Judi” Wieghat of Van Alstyne, Texas; sons, Layne Wieghat and wife, Catherine of Anna, Texas, Glenn Wieghat and wife, Alicia “Lori” of Fairview, Texas; grandchildren, Emily Wieghat, Gabriella Meza, Gavin Wieghat, Colby Wieghat and Julianna Wieghat; special friends, Ken and Karen Dodd of Flint, Texas; sisters, Gerdine O’Neal of Brenham, Texas, Joy Dell Janner of College Station, Texas, Doris Ann Pace and husband, Marlin of Brenham, Texas, Shirley Shows and husband, David of Rosenburg, Texas, Eileen Aliminsky and husband, Lawrence of Sugarland, Texas; brothers, Leroy Wieghat of Gunter, Texas and Albin Tielke, Jr of Sugarland, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews. Woody is preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Dora Wieghat; aunt and uncle, Albin Tielke, Sr. and Emma Tielke; brothers, Floyd Wieghat, Bernie Tielke, Elton Tielke, Gary Wieghat and his sister, Kathy Wieghat.

 

The family will receive friends at a Visitation to be held at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 300 Pecan Street, Gunter, Texas 75058 from 6:30-8:30 PM on Wednesday, November 28, 2012. Funeral Services will be held at the Funeral Home at 2:00 PM on Thursday, November 29, 2012 with Pastor Wayne Walker officiating. Interment will follow at Van Alstyne Cemetery in Van Alstyne, Texas.
