Withers Lee Smith

Affectionately know as “Wig” to family and friends, Withers Smith began his eternal life with God on Dec. 17. Wig was born Jan. 3, 1928, graduated Sunset H.S., Dallas, TX, served in the U.S. Navy 6/10/46-6/10/49, began attending college, and was called back for the Korean conflict and served again 1/3/51-10/31/52. He has been a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church throughout his life, currently an active member of FUMC-Allen, TX. Through his 36 years of service with AT&T, where he retired as a Transmission Technician, he was a dedicated father who loved his family unconditionally. He was a Boy Scout leader during the 1960-70s. He was made a Mason as a young man, advanced in the degrees of the Scottish Rite and the Hella Temple Shrine. He was the epitome of Christian world values and Masonic principles. He left behind a world full of dear friends, whom he loved as family. He was preceded in death by his father Charles Alexander Smith, mother Minnie Mae Withers, brother Charles Alexander Smith Jr., sister Nancy Walker, son-in-law Michael Armand, and granddaughter Meshell Lynn Armand. He is survived by his full house of children, queens high—Sons: Withers Lee Jr. & Mariola Smith, and Craig A. & Debra Smith. Daughters: Katherine (Kat) Armand, Beth A. Schmidt, and Daneece & Larry Burnett. Papaw loved his grandchildren as much as life itself: Wayne Broom, Regina Broom, Cristen Smith, Joshua Schmidt, Rosalind White, Jessica Smith, Justin McConnell, Ashley McConnell, Cortney Smith, Clayton Burnett, and Caitlin Smith. Papaw had a special sparkle for his great-grandchildren Kaylee McClung, Benjamin Broom and Sophia Broom. Visitation: 7-9 pm Tuesday. Funeral services at FUMC-Allen, 10 am Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital, TSRH.org.
