Willie May “Billie” Gilbert of Princeton, Texas passed October 17, 2013 at the age of 101. She was born May 26, 1912 to Robert Daniel Tompkins and Amanda Senora (Skelton) Tompkins in Princeton, Texas. Billie married Wallace “Wod” Gilbert on December 3, 1931 in McKinney, Texas. She worked with the livestock sale barns in Greenville, McKinney, Princeton and Denton. She also worked in the family owned North End Grocery in Princeton. Mrs. Billie was a member of the Church of Christ in Princeton since the age of 12. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels, City Elections and the Church Food Pantry. She had a passion for gardening and yard work.
Mrs. Billie is survived by her sons, Jimmy Gilbert and wife Joyce of Princeton, Texas, Tommy Gilbert and wife Barbara of Richardson, Texas, Tim Gilbert and wife Sue Ann of Princeton; daughters, JoAnnn Fry Duncan and her husband Gordon of Plano, Texas, Peggy Gardner of Princeton, Linda Carol Durham and husband Bobby of Whitewright, Texas; 22 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Wallace “Wod” Gilbert; sons, Bobby and Michael Gilbert; daughter, Jane Tallant and 17 siblings.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 20, 2013 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Allen, Texas with Mr. Rocky Gardner, Brother Bruce Boys and Rev. Don Andrews officiating. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Saturday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
