IN LOVING MEMORY

William James Harris, Sr.

Dec 31 1945 - Dec 06 2013

William James Harris, Sr. was born on December 31, 1945 in Belzoni, Mississippi to the late Daniel W. Harris, Sr. and Mattie Harris.

In 1951, the Harris family moved to Sacramento, California. As a child, William joined Greater Light Baptist Church. He graduated from Sacramento High School in 1964, then attended Sacramento City College for three years until he was drafted into the US Army. William served in the Army through March of 1969. He then continued his education at California State University, Sacramento, graduating in 1972.

William met Laurel Sanderlin in 1969. They married on August 1, 1970, at St. Roberts Catholic Church in Sacramento, California. Three children were born from this union.

William enjoyed a rich family life with his wife, children, parents, siblings, extended family and close friends. In recent years, he greatly cherished the time spent with his five grandchildren.

After serving as a California State Police Officer for 17 years, William began a career that allowed him to serve children in the greater community. He became a teacher, working with children with autism – first in the DeKalb County (Georgia) School District, and then in the Dallas (Texas) Independent School District.

While living in Atlanta, William was Baptized and Confirmed and became a member of the Basillaca of the Sacred Heart.

William was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers, Alexander and Wilson Harris. He leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Laurel Harris; daughter, Ericka Harris; sons, William Harris, Jr. and Sheldon Harris (Christina); grandchildren, Sheldon Harris, Curtis Emery, Isaiah Harris, Tyree Harris and Imaree Harris; brothers, Daniel W. Harris, Jr., Roosevelt Harris, Louis V. Harris and Thomas Harris; sisters, Josephine Harris and Charlesetta Brown (Gregory); aunt, Irene Anderson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Frisco on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at 10:00 AM. Family and friends are invited to the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Wednesday for a visitation.
