William "Bill" David Knotek

William "Bill" David Knotek died March 27, 2007 in Dallas, TX after a long and brave struggle against chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Born May 28, 1949 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, he was the son of Milan James and Gladys O’Connor Knotek. After graduating from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1966, and he attended the University of Iowa where he enjoyed himself thoroughly for a year before he left school to join the Navy. Bill proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Chicago during the Vietnam War. He married the former Bobbie Fry on Nov. 15, 1975 in Council Bluffs, IA. Their 31-year-marriage produced two daughters, Lacey Knotek and Karlyn Nelson. A devoted father, "Dad" coached soccer for his girls and was known for his Plano East High School Volleyball Banquet videos. He enjoyed spending time with "his girls" on beach vacations, with a preference for tropical locations and/or Destin, FL. Bill had three hobbies - watching golf on TV, practicing golf at the driving range and playing golf with anyone up for a "bet". He was a quiet, fun-loving man, and although he rarely showed emotions other than his dry sense of humor, his family and friends meant the world to him. Bill was a dedicated and trusted software professional who worked for several grocery companies. Collegues and customers alike highly respected Bill for his integrity in business, his dedication to people and his commitment to quality. Bill was a person that people wanted both to work with as a respected associate and to spend time with as a trusted friend. In addition to his wife and children, Bill is survived by his mother Gladys Knotek of Council Bluffs, IA; siblings, Sharon Curry of Natick, MA, Larry Knotek of Council Bluffs, IA; Mary Lou Pfeiffer of Council Bluffs, IA; Michael Knotek of Tucson, AZ; and Jim Knotek of Kansas City, MO; lifelong friends, John Herzog of Omaha, NE and Steve Spitznagle of Council Bluffs, IA; the family's beloved companion, Bailey, a chocolate lab; golf buddies and coworkers; and a host of other family and friends. His father preceded him in death. A funeral mass will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, March 31, 2007, at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Plano, TX with Father Clifford Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends during a visitation beginning at 7 p.m. Friday at the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home located inside the memorial park at Highway 75 and Exit 38-Ridgeview Drive in McKinney, TX. Following the graveside service, an Irish/Czech wake to celebrate Bill’s life will be held at Bill and Bobbie's residence. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
