Weldon Doyle (W.D.) Nelson, 59, died Oct. 6, 2005, at this home in Winnsboro, Texas. He was born Sept. 18, 1946, in McKinney, Texas, to Paul Taylor Nelson and Gladys (Copus) Nelson. A graduate of Allen High School, he attended Sam Houston State University before serving with the U.S. Army in Berlin, Germany for two years during the Vietnam War. He married Jenna L. Bell on May 3, 1969, in Dallas. His telecommunications career with Collins Radio, Rockwell International, and Alcatel, all in Richardson, spanned more than 25 years. In retirement he enjoyed his ranch in Winnsboro, where he raised Beefmaster cattle. He is survived by his wife of 36 years and son Clint Douglas Nelson of Allen, daughter Allison Nicole Nelson, of Winnsboro, brother, Alford L. Nelson of Fairview, sister and brother-in-law Bonnie N. and J.D. Preslar of Robstown, sister-in-law Betty Nelson and niece Brenda Nelson of San Antonio, brother-in-law and wife, Eugene G. and Tajuana Roberts of Lucas, and nephew Brady E. Roberts of Bombay, India. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Paul D. Nelson and Douglas W. Nelson, sister Barbara N. Roberts and sister-in-law Winona W. Nelson. Funeral services will be held 4:00 p.m., Monday, October 10 in the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel. Interment will follow at Allen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, National Kidney Foundation, or Tinney Chapel United Methodist Church of Winnsboro. Pallbearers are Wendell Holder, William Coursey, Mark Spurgin, Ronald Reed, Robert Saylor, and Perry Waller.
