Warren "Stan" Stanford

Warren “Stan” Stanford was born August 25, 1921 at Randlett, Oklahoma to Thomas Howell Stanford and Elma Spannigel. He married Val Parker on May 27, 1945 at Dierks, Arkansas. He died Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at Mullican Care Center in Savoy, Texas at the age of 89. Stan served his nation in the U.S. Army Air Corp. during World War II as a pilot. He commanded a squadron of B-25 bombers in the European theatre, flying 75 missions. Captain Stanford earned the Distinguished Flying Cross, 4 Battle Stars, European Theatre Ribbon, and Air Medal with 9 Oak Leaf Clusters.. After the war he moved to Whitewright where he owned and operated a number of businesses. He owned and operated Babcock Hardware Store, later the Whitewright Ford Dealership. He later became manager for Edwards Chevrolet and was a rural letter carrier. He also was a long time cattle rancher. He was a member of Kentuckytown Baptist Church. He is survived by wife of 65 years, Val Parker Stanford of Whitewright; daughter, Nancy Stanford Laskey and husband Steven of Littleton, Colorado; grandchildren, Sharon Scheminske and husband Erick of Englewood, Colorado; Steven Christopher Laskey of Tustin, California; 2 great-grandchildren; 4 sisters; and 1 brother. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, December 3, 2010 at Kentuckytown Baptist Church, Whitewright, Texas. Officiating the service will be Rev. Rodney Stanford and Rev. Greg Allen. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Whitewright, Texas. Pallbearers will be Randy Wilson, Mack Wilson, Steve Laskey, Chris Laskey, Gary Erwin, and Bill White. Family and friends are invited to the funeral home at their convenience on Thursday to pay their respects and to sign the register book. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Thursday, December 2, 2010 from 6-8pm at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, Whitewright, Texas.
