Walter Everett Hamm

Everett Hamm, 79, died on December 4, 2009, at his home in McKinney. Everett was born on August 8, 1930 to C.E.(Shenney) and Velma Hamm. He was a native of McKinney and graduated from McKinney’s Boyd High School. Everett married Vancie Blackmon on May 29, 1952. He served in the Air Force from 1951-1954 in Greenland. After returning from the Air Force, Everett entered the meat business which he continued for 47 years. He owned and operated Hamm’s Meats in downtown McKinney. Everett was known for his servant’s heart. He was a Kiwanian for 50 years and a volunteer fireman for 22 years. He was an active member of McKinney’s First United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, Communion Steward, and organizer and cook for the Community Prayer Breakfasts. 

Everett is survived by Vancie, his wife, of 57 years, daughter - Angela, son - Walter, granddaughters - Emma and Sara Philips (parents Charlie and Dina Philips), and a sister - Sue Miller. 

Visitation will be held at Turrentine - Jackson - Morrow Funeral home on Sunday, December 6, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at McKinney’s First United Methodist Church on Monday, December 7, interment to follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park. 

In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate memorials being made, in Everett’s honor, to First United Methodist Church, 315 N. Church St., McKinney, Texas 75069. The family would like to thank Senior Select, Harris Hospice and caregivers Eileene Brown, Bette Corbett, Marlett Gruber, and Brenda Hackler for all their kindness.
