Victor Jerome Poncik

Lt. Col. Victor Jerome Poncik (USAF Retired) of Plano, Texas passed away early Saturday, April 8th. He was born February 6, 1917 in Granger, Texas the only child of Lewis and Emma Lednicky Poncik formerly of West, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Nancy Elder Poncick and stepson, David Pierce Elder. During a 28 year career in the Air Force, Col. Poncik received the awards of Silver Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Distinguished Flying Cross during World War II and the Air Force Commendation Medal during the Cold War era. He was an avid historian researching and documenting the history of aviation during the early years of World War II and his family roots and their migration into Texas. He was an unwavering fan of the Texas Rangers, Dallas Cowboys, and the Ohio State Buckeyes, but most of all he was a generous, loving father. He is survived by son, William Victor Poncik and his wife, Dana Ganarelli of Plano, their children, Morgan Kathryn and Daniel Stewart; a daughter Beth Reese of Cloudcroft, New Mexico; grandson, Mark David Elder and wife, Christina; great grandchildren, Jessica Marie, Sarah Elizabeth, and Jackson David; grandson, Michael William Elder and their mother, Linda Marie Platis all of Boise, Idaho; and special friend, Mary Marler. Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday, April 11, 2006, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM in Allen at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home. A memorial service will be at noon on Wednesday, April 12th. Burial will follow at 3:00 PM at the National Cemetery in Grand Prairie with full military honors.
