Vickie Mower, age 58, of Allen, Texas passed away October 28, 2009. She was born November 28, 1950 in Wichita, Kansas to Bernard and Marie (Riedel) Huslig. On October 20, 1991 Vickie married Russ Mower in Plano, Texas. A member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Allen, she was an open-hearted, deeply spiritual person. Her compassion for the dying led her to found the non-profit hospice facility, Journey Home. She held a master’s degree from Kansas State University and received her bachelor’s degree from Fort Hays State University in Kansas. Vickie retired as the training manager from the City of Plano. She had a keen interest in the careers of her daughters and took great pride in the fact that all three of them graduated from college. She was a loving mother and a cherished “Nana.” She loved to travel and enjoyed riding motorcycles. Her favorite saying captures her view on life: “Life is short; eat dessert first.” Vickie is survived by her husband, Russ Mower of Allen, Texas; mother, Marie Huslig of Claflin, Kansas; daughters, Tina Firgens and husband, Keith of Plano, Texas, Lisa Pflughoeft-Goetz and husband, Todd of Wichita, Kansas, Diana Cochrane of Dallas, Texas; brothers, Thomas Huslig of Claflin, Kansas and Dennis Zimmerman of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Peyton and Logan Firgens of Plano, Texas and Paige Goetz of Wichita, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her father, Bernard Huslig. A Rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, November 1 at St. Jude Catholic Church. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 2, 2009 at St. Jude Catholic Church, Allen, Texas.
