IN LOVING MEMORY

Vicki Lee Wells

Dec 20 1960 - Feb 14 2010

Our beloved Vicki Lee Wells was taken to Heaven to be with the Lord on February 14, 2010 after a very hard fought battle with pancreatic cancer. Vicki was born in Spokane, Washington on December 20, 1960, to Peter and Virginia Malek of Deer Park, Washington where Vicki grew up. She attended Deer Park High School, lettering in basketball and graduating with honors. Following high school, Vicki attended Kinman Business University in Spokane Washington where she earned her certification as a Dental Assistant. In August of 1981, Vicki married Gerald (Gerry) Wells, a newly commissioned Army Second Lieutenant, where she not only became a wife but an Army Spouse. Vicki accompanied Gerry around the world on Army assignments, supporting his career while she attended to her own career as well. On their first assignment to Korea, Vicki could not work as a Dental Assistant so she found employment on the Korean economy working as a commercial model and conversational English instructor for several large Korean business firms. She has stayed in touch with several of her students over the years. Once back in the United States, Vicki continued with her profession as a Dental Assistant and later migrated into Dental Office Management. She also performed as a Certified Aerobics Instructor between 1987 and 1997 when knee problems forced her to give up that vocation. She continued to stay physically fit through dancing, walking, and biking and always encouraged others to do the same. As an Army spouse, Vicki was always involved with every Unit Gerry was assigned to. She was extremely active in Wives Clubs, Family Support Groups, and unit functions. Her compassion and support of the troops assigned to Gerry’s Units was visible and greatly appreciated by the troops and their families. She was an integral part of the “Command Team” and Gerry attributes the success of his career to her support and understanding during their 21 years of Army life. Vicki and Gerry settled in Plano, Texas following Gerry’s final assignment in Dallas and retirement from the Army in 2002. Since 1999, Vicki has worked as the Dental Office Manager for Dr. Denise McGrade, DDS in Plano, Texas. While in that position, Vicki became involved with the North Texas Missions along with the rest of her office. She deployed to Honduras on mission trips in 2008 and 2009 to provide much needed dental and spiritual aid to the indigenous population. She was known to say that those trips were among the most enriching and enlightening adventures of her life. Vicki was a member of the Fellowship Church and also enjoyed being an active member of the Big D Cruisers car club where she was a charter member. She loved animals of all types but especially dachshunds. Vicki is survived by her husband Gerry, dachshunds Abby and Buddy, her mom Virginia Malek, brother Frank Malek, sisters Phyllis Lunzer and Marlene Melville. Additionally, she leaves behind nieces Jodi Knoll, and Amber Kadletz, and nephews Phillip Daubel, Mike Daubel, and Nick Lunzer. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Thursday, February 18, 2010, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Allen, Texas with Rev. Steve McSwain officiating. In lieu of flowers, Vicki requests donations be made to the SPCA, Humane Society, American Cancer Society, or your favorite charity. An memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, February 26, 2010, at Fairmont Memorial Park, 5200 West Wellesley, Spokane, WA, 99205.
