Verna Douglas Cage

Verna Douglas Cage, of Van Alstyne, Texas passed away on June 3, 2015 at the age of 102. She was born to Jesse and Rittie (Fisher) Douglas on January 22, 1913 in McKinney, Texas. Verna married Darcy Clifton Cage on December 25, 1936. He preceded her in death in 1983.   She was very active in her church, Van Alstyne Church of Christ where she supported mission work and all aspects of the church. Verna was an active member in the South Grayson Republicans and the Friends of the Library. She also supported numerous charities including The Wounded Warriors, children’s homes, cancer centers and research centers. She helped in the community giving new ideas to council members. Verna was awarded the Citizen of the year award in 2003. She was a giving person both locally and around the world. Verna loved her family and friends dearly and helped in any way that she could.

She is survived by her brothers, Andrew Douglas of Huntsville, Alabama and Sammy Douglas of Denison, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of other loving family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; twin infant children; sisters, Gracie Hubble, Daisy Bickenbach, Dora Wright and Maggie Carrington; brothers, Burton Douglas, Rex Douglas and Roy Douglas.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 8, 2015 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Allen, Texas. Interment will follow at Pecan Grove Cemetery, McKinney, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation Sunday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow in Allen, Texas.
