Velma Spurgin, age 90, of Lucas, Texas passed away September 2, 2009. She was born April 9, 1919 in Lucas, Texas to Henry Robert and Allie Ethel (Myrick) Stinson. She was a 1936 graduate of Boyd High School in McKinney. On September 28, 1940 Velma married Milford Eugene Spurgin in McKinney, Texas. They were married for over 61 years. She was a member of Good Shepherd Methodist Church in Lucas for over 70 years. Velma worked for Alden Mills Mattress Company in Plano for over 50 years. She is survived by sister, Jana B. Hennig of Sachse, Texas; sister-in-law, Emma Stinson of Mt. Vernon, Texas and numerous loving nieces, nephews and other loving relatives; special friend, Anson Funderburg of McKinney, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, H.R. (Rob) and Allie Stinson; husband, Milford Spurgin and brother, James Stinson. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 5, 2009, in the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel with Rev. Nancy Sherman officiating. Interment will follow at Fitzhugh Cemetery, Forest Grove Community. Family and friends are invited to the funeral home at their convenience on Friday to pay their respects and to sign the register book. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Friday evening beginning at 6:00 p.m., at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, Allen, Texas.
