Velma Jean Bailey

Born to Jim Helen Johnson and Rufus Johnson, Sr. on January 13, 1940 in Van Alstyne, Texas. Velma graduated from Doty High School in 1958, went to nursing school at Collin County School of Nursing and became a licensed vocational nurse (LVN). She also attended Bethune Cookman College in Daytona Beach, Florida for several months to further her education. Velma worked at Wysong (Westpark) Hospital for 31 years. She was a member of Saint James CME Church. Velma went to be with our heavenly father on June 20, 2011 at 12:02 am. Left to cherish her wonderful memories are Major General John H. Bailey II; daughter, Denise Muoneke and husband Celestine of McKinney, Texas; sons, Captain John H. Bailey III and wife Renee of McKinney, Texas, Chris Bailey and wife Mary of Prescott, Arizona and Brian Bailey and wife Camesha also of McKinney, Texas; sisters, Jimmie Watson of McKinney, Texas and Willie Sims and husband Leamon of Dallas, Texas; brothers, Rufus Johnson and wife Jeanelle also of Dallas, Ralph Johnson and wife Peggy of Allen, Texas; three grandchildren, Quinton Bailey, Cedric Muoneke, and Brittany Muoneke; two great-grandchildren, Jayla and Dylan Bailey; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, family and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Jim Helen Johnson and father, Rufus Johnson Sr. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 25, 2011 at Saint James CME Church in McKinney, Texas with Rev. Winston Douglas officiating. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas. Visitation will be Friday at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
