Vance Lenox Harbor, age 84, of McKinney, Texas, passed away February 25, 2014, in McKinney. Vance was born November 9, 1929, in DeKalb, Texas, to Marvin and Lily Harbor, the youngest of four children. He received his bachelor and master’s degrees in education from East Texas State University. Vance proudly served in the United States Air Force for four years during the Korean Conflict. He married Doris Pierce of New Boston, Texas, on April 24, 1954. Vance retired in 1991 after thirty years with Employers Insurance of Texas. He served as president of the Wichita Falls Life Underwriters Association from 1977 to 1978 and as president of the Southwest Rotary Club in Wichita Falls from 1987 to 1988. Vance was a member of First Baptist Church, Wichita Falls for forty-one years where he served as a deacon and a teacher of Men’s Bible Study. He was a member of First Baptist Church of McKinney as well as a member of the New Ventures Bible Class.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Harbor; sons, Van Harbor and wife, Sheralyn and Hal Harbor and wife, Beth; and grandchildren, Josh Harbor Catie Harbor, Lindsey Harbor, Chris Harbor, Ashley Harbor, and Conner Harbor.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 28, 2014, at First Baptist Church of McKinney. Interment will be held at 3:30 p.m., Friday at Ringwood Cemetery in New Boston, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Thursday evening at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas.
