Valeta Welborn Cope

Valeta Welborn Cope was born February 4, 1930 to Chester Sampson and Katie Amber (Harrington) Welborn in the Branch Community in Collin County. Valeta graduated from McKinney High School in 1948. She married her sweetheart, Billy J. “BB” Cope, on February 9, 1951 in the downtown First Baptist Church of McKinney, TX. BB and Valeta have three sons: Billy J. Cope, Jr. of Garland, TX, Bradley Welborn Cope of McKinney, and Barry Brian Cope of New York, NY. Billy Jr. and his wife, Debbie, have two sons: William Austin and wife Kathryn, and Matthew Elliot; Brad and his wife Jennifer have one son, Andrews Welborn and fiancé Danielle Pickard, and two daughters: Emily Amanda and Olivia Lee. Valeta was employed with the Law Firm of Orr, McWilliams and Houser for several years. She was an avid bridge player and has been a long time member and greeter of the First Baptist Church since 1946. Valeta was also a member of the Owl Forum also known as the “Hootie Owls”.

Valeta was from a family of five children: Frances Trammell (deceased), Paula Dean Gilbert of Bossier City, LA, WC Welborn (deceased), and Wilma Bird (deceased). She has several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 25 with a reception following at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas. Family and friends are invited to the funeral home at their convenience on Monday to pay their respects and to sign the register book. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation (ALZ.org) or your favorite Alzheimer’s research organization.
