Tressie Mae Sanders

Tressie was born May 12, 1916 in Denton, Texas to parents Gabe M. Marriott and Eula Gallagher Marriott. She was the youngest of six children. She died June 8, 2010 in McKinney, Texas. She received her high school diploma at the age of 15. She had the highest grade point average of all students at Denton Senior High. She continued her education with a full scholarship to North Texas State Teachers College in Denton, Texas. She graduated at the age of 19. She taught for a few years and then went on to work for government services until retirement. She traveled extensively following the United States Olympic games during the 70’s and 80’s and also closely following the Amateur Athletics Association. She was active in her community and in her church in Houston and McKinney. She served as president of the Business and Professional Women in Houston and McKinney and was involved in the Ladies Oriental Shrine in Houston, Texas and served as President of the LOS Patrol. She married Bennie Sanders on January 21, 2000 at the Trinity Presbyterian Church in McKinney, where she and Bennie are still members. Tressie was preceded in death by sons Phillip Lilly and Rhea Lilly and is survived by her husband Bennie Sanders, daughter Marilynn Harper Tolle, son-in-law Mel Tolle, grandson, Bart Harper of McKinney, stepdaughters, Linda Hackney and husband Freddy of McKinney and Gayla Little of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. She is also survived by other grandchildren and great grandchildren and by many nieces and nephews. The family extends their gratitude to the caregivers at Homestead of McKinney and Heart to Heart Hospice. A Funeral Service will be held at Turrentine Jackson Morrow Funeral Home in McKinney, Texas on Friday, June 11, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday, June 10, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and friend. Her pretty smile and gentle ways will be missed by all.
