IN LOVING MEMORY

Tom Cobine

Dec 10 1956 - Feb 11 2016

After battling illness Tom Cobine passed peacefully on February 11th and joined his beloved wife and soulmate Jaybird for eternity.

He was born in Bangor, ME the eldest child of seven to Lawrence and Ellen Cobine. After graduating at the age of 17, he joined the U.S. Navy. Tom bragged that in his 21 years serving his country he traveled to every continent except one and sailed every ocean except one. His family will fulfill his final wishes to be buried at sea.

He married Jamie “Jaybird” Latham on July 22nd, 1984 and was happily married for 23 years before Jay was taken by ALS in 2008. They are survived by their two daughters, Rachel Hearn of San Antonio, TX and Sarah Beaver of Converse, TX and grandchildren Aidan Beaver, Ryan Beaver and Rebecca Hearn.

Tom was a man who loved learning. He loved to ask trivia questions on a multitude of topics from history, literature, geography and his favorite! topic music. He had an amazing talent to identify a song, the performer and even the album. He was a story teller in many ways; by describing the places he visited, the “mountain man” story he wrote in his head and the poems he wrote from his heart.

Tom was the big brother to Mary, Bridget, Thersa, Michelle and Angela and Timothy. He could make us laugh with his antics, baffled with his trivia, and proud of his dedication to family and country. He was an inspiration to siblings, nieces and nephews who followed his adventurous and patriotic spirit by joining the military. He is survived by his mother and preceded in death by his father.

Tom was a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) where he held responsible Post positions at various times. He found his home with the Lone Star Post 2150 in McKinney, TX. He was inducted into the Motorcycle Group (MG) 33 and to his delight given the name “Music Man”. VFW Post 2150 will honor him with a service on February 27, 2016 from 2:00 – 5:00 at 1710 North Church Street, McKinney, TX. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in his name to the American Cancer Society.
