Thomas Marshall Nichols

Thomas Marshall Nichols, age 64, of McKinney, Texas, passed away October 9, 2013, in Dallas, Texas.  Thomas was born January 10, 1949 in San Francisco, California to James Marshall Nichols and Pauline Fay Brindley.  His father was in the Air Force so he grew up in several places including Pasadena, CA, Albuquerque, NM, Rochester, NY, Tucson, AZ, and England eventually settling down in Frisco, TX.  

He joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 1962 in Albuquerque, NM.  Tom graduated from high school in New York, where he was a star on the track team, setting several school records.  He went on to serve a mission in Bolivia where he gained a passion for the Spanish language.  On August 2, 1973 Tom married Charlene Joann Waag in the Mesa Arizona Temple. He earned his degree from Pima County Community College in Computer Science.  Having earned his degree, he gained employment with EDS (now HP) where he worked for over 28 years.

He is survived by his wife Charlene and his daughters, Carolyn Light, wife of Ben Light of American Fork, UT, Jennifer Youngberg, wife of Michael Youngberg of Bessemer, AL, and Rachel Nelson wife of Joshua Nelson of Plano, TX as well as his son Michael Nichols of Dallas, TX, sister Patricia Rhoades wife of Duane Rhoades of Laramie, WY, brothers, James Nichols and wife Diane of Pahrump, NV, and Bill Nichols of Albuquerque, NM, grandchildren, Natalie, Julia, and Levi Light, and numerous nieces and nephews.

His parents and step-mother, Ruth Nichols preceded him in death.

Tom’s favorite place on this earth was Jenny Lake at Yellowstone National Park.  Other than his family, he had a love for his calling as a temple worker and for his cats, especially Ray. 

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 12, 2013, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 5095 Coit Road Frisco, Texas.  Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas.  The family will receive friends during a visitation at the church on Saturday morning one hour prior to the service.
