Thomas Gerald McLain

Funeral services for Thomas Gerald McLain, 95 year old Leonard resident, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 7th at the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Chapel at Leonard. Burial will be in the Leonard Cemetery. Family visitation will be Tuesday January 6th from 6 until 8 p.m. Mr. McLain was born September 23, 1913 at Bay City, Texas. His parents were Lester Winston and Lillie Olive Owens McLain. He married Nell Netherton November 17, 1943 at Leonard, Texas and they were blessed with 65 years together as husband and wife. He entered the army on March 13, 1942 and served in England, France, Luxembourg, Holland, Belgium and his reconnaissance group was the first to enter Germany in World War II. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a former member of the Leonard I.S.D. School Board and served as a Fannin County Commissioner for 12 years. He worked many years as a farmer/rancher. He was a member of the Valley Creek Baptist Church where he served as a deacon as well church treasurer for 25 years. He was much admired and respected in the area for his honesty, integrity and Christian example. He is survived by his wife: Nell Netherton McLain of Leonard, Texas; his son and daughter-in-law: Gary and Sue McLain of San Jose, CA.; his daughters and sons-in-law: Judy and Bob Irwin of Mabank, Texas and Beth and Terry Loughry of Leonard, Texas; his six grandchildren: Heather Irwin Caronna of Kemp, Texas, Shana Irwin Coury of Poetry, Texas, Holly McLain Connors of Antioch, CA., Courtney McLain Walters of Wills Point, Texas, T.J. Loughry of Austin, Texas and Lindsey Loughry of Leonard, Texas; his 7 great grandchildren: Dalton Irwin, Muireann Caronna, Maggie Caronna, Riley Connors, Kyli McLain-Walters, Hanna Barron and Ryann Walters. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Valley Creek Baptist Church Building Fund at P.O. Box 397 Leonard, Texas 75452. Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home of Leonard is in charge of arrangements.
