Thelma Mae Hays Garnier was born February 1, 1916 in Prosper, Texas, to Amos and Mary Jane Greenwood Hays. She lost her battle with congenitive heart failure on July 9, 2010. Her husband, Jules Garnier, was a 20 year Navy veteran and she traveled all over the United States when he was transferred. Thelma has had several jobs in addition to being a mother. She helped her mother as a child after her father, Amos Hays, was shot and killed while he was the Prosper City Marshall in 1917. Thelma worked as a nurse, waitress, interior decorator, and also worked in several banks. She also was employed with Lockheed Aircraft during World War II. She is survived by her four children, Catherine Bryant, Patricia Kuest and William and Robert Garnier; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Amos and Mary Jane Hays, husband, Jules Garnier, sister, Mary Leona Hays Collier, brothers, Chester, Marvin, Claud, Ernest, and Elmer Hays, and children, Gloria, Carol Ann, Vennard, and June Garnier. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 12, 2010, at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Prosper, Texas. The cemetery is located between Prosper and McKinney north of Hwy. 380 on Custer Road. Family and friends are invited to the funeral home at their convenience on Sunday to pay their respects and to sign the register book.
