Sylvia Swindell Smith, of Princeton, Texas, passed away on January 28, 2013, at the age of 89. She was born on November 25, 1923, in Farmersville, Texas, to Silvanious and Mary Bessie (McAdams) Swindell. On November 25, 1939, Sylvia married William Chester “Bear” Smith, in Farmersville. She was a member of Step of Faith Worship Center, in Farmersville. Sylvia worked as a nurse for 43 years at Collin Memorial Hospital in McKinney.
She is survived by her sons, Gary Don and wife, Tanya Smith of McKinney, Texas and Jerry Glenn and wife, Rhonda Smith of Nobility, Texas; grandchildren, Travis, Greg, Brandon, Jodi, Kimberly, Kevin, Chester, Jennifer, Jerry, Jr., and Jessica; 17 great-grandchildren; and daughters-in-law, Jayne Smith of Wolfe City, Texas and Bertie Smith Wizansky of Marble Falls, Texas.
Sylvia is preceded in death by her parents, Silvanious and Mary Bessie Swindell; husband, William Chester “Bear” Smith; sons, Mark Wayne and William Travis Smith; and her infant baby brother.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on February 1, 2013, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel, in Allen, Texas. Interment will follow, at Ridgeview Memorial Park, in Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation, Thursday evening, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home.
