IN LOVING MEMORY

Steven Lee Honeycutt

Jul 22 1957 - Nov 20 2014

Steven Lee Honeycutt of Fairview, Texas passed away November 20, 2014 at the age of 57. He fought a extremely rough battle against Multiple Myeloma since 2012. Steven’s family want to thank the staff at Texas Oncology Stem Cell Transplant and the oncology nurses on floors 11S, 10S and especially 9S at Medical City Dallas.

He was born July 22, 1957 to Fred and Vivian (Rae) Honeycutt in Bryan, Texas but he lived in College Station and was a Life Long Aggie. His father, Fred, worked in the Texas A&M Power Plant and for many years Steven’s family lived in a wonderful close neighborhood with families like the Houstons, the Hodges and others associated with Texas A&M in university housing on Ball Street. His Aunt Cleo and Uncle Lloyd Mousner shared their duplex.

Beginning in elementary school in College Station Steven was a classmate of Congressman Jeb Hensarling and wasn’t surprised when his “best good buddy” pursued politics. Steven graduated from A&M Consolidated High School in College Station in 1975 where he excelled in science and math. Steven was a trombone player in Consolidated’s Tiger Marching Band with friends Don Mason and Dan Hogan. During high school Steven became a photographer enjoying the technical skills. He worked part time for Barker Photography and took photos of Aggie Events such as Band performances, Ring Dance, Elephant Walk, Sorority Parties and Bonfire. Through taking photos of Sheri Ryman, Miss Texas A&M 1981, Steven got involved in the Miss Texas and Miss America pageants. He attended Texas A&M University starting in 1975 where his major was in Electrical Engineering and later EngineeringTechnology. While a student he worked at the University Library in the Periodical Section.Steven worked for 29 years initially with Texas Instruments Defense System Group which in 1997 became part of Raytheon where he made significant contributions to a number of engineering projects. He was very proud to work on a long term classified defense project. Steven enjoyed fishing, high-end stereo equipment, Star Trek, The Lord of the Rings, Elton John, ham radio, wine tasting, geckos, Cowboy football games and home computing. Steven also had a private pilot's licenseand trained at Easterwood Airport.

Steven married Maureen McNamara on August 19, 1989 in Richardson, Texas. They met on October 15, 1985 during their first year working at Texas Instruments in the North Building when Steven saw her carrying her birthday balloons out to her car. They discovered they had some common interests of both being private pilots and studying computer programming. In 1994 they built a home in Fairview back when there was nothing on Stacy Road except corn fields, pastures, and a golf driving range. Maureen became an Aggie fan through watching Aggie sports with Steven and traveling many times to College Station to visit Steven’s parents, Fred and Vivian. Maureen thanks the Texas Instruments Law Department for enabling her to still work while being caregiver to Steven this year.

Steven is survived by his wife of 25 years, Maureen McNamara Honeycutt of Fairview, Texas and parents, Fred and Vivian Honeycutt, of College Station, Texas until 2008 and now of Allen, Texas and in-laws, Ann and Leo McNamara of Brooksville, Florida. Steven is survived by a close cousin, Diane Lagrone of Manor, Texas, her son Derick and her four grandsons, Maureen’s cousin Joe Castagna of The Woodlands and his wife, Mary, and their daughters Catherine and Christine, close friends Don and Patricia Mason of Garland, Texas, close friends Tammy and David Sudduth of Allen, Texas and their daughters Katie and Abbie and life-long family friends Connie and Steve Gulley and their daughter, Victoria, of Opelika, Alabama.

Steven was preceded in death by his grandparents, Sam and Edna Rae and Oscar and Muna Honeycutt. This year he was preceded in the too young death of his close cousin, Meredith Rae Morris LaGrone Canales, the flower girl at his wedding. As Diane LaGrone said, Steven can now take care of her baby girl, Meredith.
