Scott Morgan Johnson

May 13 1932 - May 22 2016

Scott Morgan Johnson of Collinsville, formerly of McKinney passed away on May 22, 2016 at the age of 84.  He was born on May 13, 1932 to Bert and Iva Bell (Cox) Johnson in Tioga.  Scott married Jan Long on May 29, 1960 in McKinney.  Following graduation from Collinsville High School, Scott received his Bachelor of Science and Master’s Degrees from North Texas State University in Denton.  He began his teaching and coaching career in McKinney in 1953.  This was the beginning of a career that would span 35 years in the McKinney Independent School District ultimately becoming Superintendent of Schools. Throughout his career, his duties consisted of many coaching positions including head varsity basketball and football coach as well as Athletic Director. Scott left the athletic arena in 1972 when he was named Assistant Superintendent. He became the Superintendent in the summer of 1980 and served in that capacity until his retirement in July of 1988. Upon retirement, Scott worked as a consultant for Claycomb and Associates Architectural firm as well as several stints as interim superintendent at various local school districts. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of McKinney and later First Baptist Church of Gainesville, as well as the McKinney Lions Club and many other professional and civic organizations.

Scott is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Jan Johnson of Collinsville; sons, Scotty Johnson and wife Kelli, Ross Johnson and wife Kim all of Seminole; grandchildren, Jake Johnson and wife Kayla of Miles, Taylor Johnson and wife Ashley of Seminole, Kara Hawkins and husband Jonathan of Artesia, New Mexico, Jarett Scott Johnson and Cason Johnson both of Seminole; great-grandchildren, Gage Johnson and Lilah Johnson; sister-in-law, Pat Loftin of Windthorst; nieces, Alison Hale and husband Randy of Ft. Worth,  Sherry King and husband Cavin of Lindsay; great-nieces, Logan King and Lindsey King; and numerous other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Wallace Dale Johnson; and grandson, Jace Kayde Johnson.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 26, 2016 at First Baptist Church, 308 E. Broadway St., Gainesville with Dr. Jeff Langley officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Collinsville. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Wednesday evening, May 25, 2016, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen.

Memorials may be made in Scott’s honor to First Baptist Church in Gainesville or Mt. Zion Cemetery in Collinsville.
