Mr. Sam Knott, Jr. age 72, of McKinney, Texas passed away September 30, 2009. He was born on November 1, 1936, in Kansas City, Missouri to Sam Bond and MaryAnn (Doolittle) Knott. Sam attended the University of Missouri in Kansas City and Baker University in Baldwin, Kansas, where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. Following college, he proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. Sam began a 40 year career in the sporting goods industry at Elliott Knott Sporting Goods, a retailer in the Kansas City area. He later managed sales at SpotBilt Shoes, Swingster Athletic and retired as V.P. International Sales and Marketing with Dunbrooke Sports Apparel, Div. of American Marketing. On April 10, 1959, Sam married Carol Ann Cline and together they had one son, Wade. Sam later married Lila Finch Doleshal on November 16, 1988, in Maui, Hawaii. Following his retirement in 2001, he and Lila moved to McKinney, Texas to be close to his son, Wade and family. Once in Texas, he enjoyed playing golf, attending his grandsons’ various sporting events, and traveling with Lila. He is survived by his wife, Lila Knott; son, K. Wade Knott and wife, Tracy of McKinney, Texas; grandsons, Austin and Luke Knott both of McKinney; former wife, Carol Ann Knott; and stepchildren, Angela Muder of Kansas City, Kansas and Rebecca Hicks of Houston, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Mary Ann Knott; aunt, Patricia Giesige; and uncle, Lloyd Doolittle. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 5, 2009 in the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel with Dr. Danny Buster officiating. The family will receive friends for a night of remembrance gathering from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.
