Ruth Earlene Gilliland

Ruth Earlene Gilliland, age 90, of Allen, Texas passed away June 3, 2005, in Plano, Texas. She was born February 20, 1915, in Bounds Crossroads, Mississippi to Dexter and Maudi (Brown) Jackson. On June 26, 1934, she married Homer Gilliland in Tupelo, Mississippi. She attended Western Carolina Teachers College. Mrs. Gilliland was an Eastern Star and President of the Allen Senior Citizens group. She was also a member of the Allen Economic Committee and credited for starting the Allen Meals on Wheels program. Additionally, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Allen. She is survived by her son, Carl Gilliland and wife, Mary of Plano, Texas; granddaughter, Gigi Call of Allen; brothers, Ralph Jackson of Vicksburg, Mississippi and Dexter Jackson of Aberdeen, Mississippi; sisters, Willodean McRee of Louin, Mississippi and Maxine McKee of Holbrook, Arizona; and numerous nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends. Her husband; parents; and grandson, Carl Gilliland, Jr. preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 6, 2005, in the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel with Rev. Milton Guttierrez officiating. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 p.m., Sunday at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home.
