Ruth Kennedy Evans died Sunday, July 12, 2015 in McKinney, Texas where she resided.
She was born February 13, 1916 to Daisy Dean Yearout and Jo Kennedy, Sr. in Tonkawa, Oklahoma. The second oldest of 4 children, Ruth moved with her family to Henryetta, Oklahoma when she was a senior in high school. She graduated from Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Many years later, she received her master’s degree from NEO.
She taught in Bryant, Oklahoma (where she married F. L. Chancey.) She later taught music and elementary school in Henryetta and Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
She married Ray Evans in 1971 and moved to Decatur, Illinois where she continued to teach at the elementary level until she retired at age 65. She and Ray moved to Caney Creek, near Kingston, Oklahoma in 1978.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sisters Katherine and Mary Jane and brother Jo Kennedy, Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Hernandez of Atlanta, GA; sons, Michael Chancey and wife Pat of McKinney, TX and Joseph Chancey of Atlanta, GA; step-daughter, Judy Kline and husband Al of Richardson, TX. Other survivors include grandchildren, Jaime Hernandez, Chelle Carter, Bo Chancey, and step-grandson Eric Earley; great grandchildren, Brittany Hernandez Haynes, Mallory Ross, Evan Hernandez, Ethan Hernandez, KayLee Carter, Shelby Layne Carter, Liberty Carter, Latham Carter, Lace Carter, Alizah Chancey, Aysen Chancey, Ensley Chancey; and step-great granddaughter, Margaret Watson.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at Trinity Presbyterian Church on Virginia Parkway in McKinney, TX.
