Mr. Tyrus “Rusty” Raymond Johnson, Jr., age 52, of Richardson, Texas passed away December 15, 2008, at his home following a nine month battle against pancreatic cancer. He was born March 16, 1956, in Dallas, Texas to Tyrus Raymond and Tina Belle (McDougal) Johnson. On May 22, 1977, he married Diane Shoemaker in Dallas. Mr. Johnson grew up in Mesquite, Texas and was a 1974 graduate of Mesquite High School, where he was the starting quarterback. He then went on to play football at Stephen F. Austin State University for one year. He worked as a groundskeeper for the athletic department of UTD. Mr. Johnson attended the Heights Baptist Church in Richardson and was an avid spectator of all sporting events. He is survived by his wife, Diane Johnson; daughter, Carly Sims and husband, Brian of Garland, Texas; mother, Tina Johnson and brother, Larry Johnson both of Atoka, Oklahoma; sister, Crystal Stricklen and husband, Mike also of Atoka; and a host of other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, December 18, 2008 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Allen, Texas. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends during a visitation beginning at 6:00 PM Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
