Russell James Mahlke

Russell James Mahlke, age 62, of McKinney, Texas died of a heart attack on December 14, 2005 at his home. He was born April 30, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois to Montross V. Mahlke and Helen M. McNeill. On May 6, 1970, he married Irene Callahan in New Orleans, Louisiana. Upon graduation from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champagne, he became a Petroleum Engineer for Mobil Oil and retired after 30 years of service. He was an avid tennis player for more than 35 years participating in league tennis and weekly tennis matches with his best friends. He was also a USTA Tennis Official for 20 years. One of his greatest gratifications in life was working as a USTA Referee for the Children Helping Children Tournament at High Point Tennis Center in Plano, Texas. In 2005 he was appointed to the Parks and Recreation Board for the City of McKinney. Mr. Mahlke took tremendous pleasure in snow skiing, frequent home improvement projects, and family vacations with his loving wife and son. He is survived by his wife, Irene C. Mahlke of McKinney; son, Christian M. Mahlke of Cambridge, Massachusetts; brothers Donald, Monte and David all of Illinois. Visitation will be held at the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home from six o’clock to nine o’clock p.m. on Monday, December 19, 2005. The service will be held Tuesday, December 20, 2005 at ten a.m. at the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home. Interment to follow at the Pecan Grove Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Children Helping Children Tennis Tournament, High Point Tennis Center, 421 Spring Creek Parkway, Plano, Texas, 75023.
