Rudy Dabiruddin Ahmed Khan

Dabiruddin “Rudy” Ahmed Khan passed away on March 29, 2012 at the age of 71. Dabir was born on February 11, 1942 in Azamgarh, India, one of nine children born to Mohammed Amin Khan and Zubedah Khatoon.

Until the age of 10, he lived with his family in Para, a small village in Upper Pradesh, India.

At ten years of age, Dabir moved to Karachi, Pakistan to live with his brother and sister in law in order to attend school there. He continued his education in Pakistan, attending premier technical schools for both high school and college.

In May of 1972, Dabir immigrated to Texas from Pakistan with his cousin, Ahmed, to attend Cook County Junior College in Gainesville. After completing junior college, he moved to Dallas and began work as a manager of a Schepp’s food store, where he met his future wife, Loretta. They married on October 1, 1976 in Dallas.

Dabir and Loretta moved to Durant, Oklahoma in 1978 to attend Southeastern Oklahoma State and completed an industrial technology degree. They moved back to Dallas in 1979 and Dabir continued college courses in computer science. Dabir and Loretta welcomed Sami, their eldest child, in July of 1979. They moved and settled in The Colony in 1984 and welcomed their second child, Sarah, in January 1990.

In the early eighties, Dabir began his 22 year career as a mainframe programmer, at Dedman Memorial Hospital, which later became RHD Memorial Hospital. At the time of his retirement in 2004, he was a network engineer. After four years of retirement, he unretired and went to work as a photo technician at WalMart in The Colony, where he worked until the time of his death.

In 1983, Dabir became a citizen of the United States of America.

He greatly enjoyed vacationing with family and especially loved the beach. Dabir and family went on many happy trips to Disney World. He also went fishing with his brothers-in law on family trips to Missouri.

His hobbies included watching Hollywood movies, and most recently, Korean soap operas. Dabir loved to shop for and give gifts to others. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Cowboys and Mavericks.

Dabir had a special place in his heart for his Siamese cat, Gingerbread.

Dabir was known for his generosity, charming personality, sense of humor and intelligent mind. At times, he enjoyed stirring up controversy and watching the results. He loved his family dearly, and was thrilled beyond measure at the birth of his granddaughter, Sophie, in 2010. She has been the light of his life for the past three years.

He will be greatly missed by his friends and his surviving family members, who include his wife, Loretta Khan, and his children Sami and Sarah. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Sophie,and his daughter in law Wendi, as well as cousin Fakhruddin Ahmed and family of Mesquite, TX. Another survivor is Cody Hobbs, whom Rudy had come to love as a son. Also surviving are his nephew, Arif Khan and family of Chicago, Illinois and niece Saba Siddiqi and family of Baltimore, Maryland and numerous other nieces, nephews, and cousins. His surviving sister is Mahmoodah Khatoon of Malaysia.

A Memorial Service will be held at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Frisco on Sunday, March 31, 2013 at 2:00 PM.
