IN LOVING MEMORY

Roy Lee Taylor

Jan 07 1931 - Nov 03 2010

Our beloved husband, father, and brother, Papa Roy L. Taylor, passed away in Wichita Falls, November 3, 2010. He was born January 7, 1931, to Lee A. Taylor and Alma Barton Taylor. He grew up in Colmesneil, Texas where he enjoyed swimming and fishing in Lake Tejas, as well as scouting and camping in the Piney Woods of East Texas. He gave his heart to Jesus Christ in his early teen years and lived his faith on a daily basis as demonstrated by his lifelong membership at First Baptist Church in Wichita Falls, Texas. Totally devoted to his wife and family, Roy was seen as a quiet man with a pleasant smile that hinted at a happy little secret. In 1951 Roy graduated from Sam Houston State Teachers College in Huntsville, Texas with a degree in Industrial Engineering. It was here that he met his darling, his wife of 67 years, Edith Turner Taylor. After college, Roy and Edie moved to Wichita Falls, where he worked for Civil Service at Sheppard Air Force Base. There he was able to indulge his passion for aircraft and automobiles by teaching aircraft systems and maintenance to pilots and mechanics. This work was interrupted by four years of military service both stateside and abroad in Japan with the United States Air Force. After honorably completing military service, he returned to SAFB to resume his career with Civil Service until retirement in 1986. Roy is survived by his wife, Edith; one daughter, Lisa and her husband Patrick McClarney; two sons, Roy Brian Taylor and Lee Barton Taylor; one sister, Shirley Taylor O’Brien; grandchildren, Ryan & Kyle Massey, Blake and Justin Taylor and Kyle’s wife, Samantha; one great-grandchild, Ethan Massey. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 16, 2010, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Allen, Texas. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen. The family will receive friends during a visitation from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Monday evening at the funeral home.
