A lifelong Collin County resident, Mr. Roberts owned Roberts Insurance in downtown McKinney, Texas for almost 40 years. He was also a real estate agent, land developer, and home builder. Some of his activities include: past McKinney Chamber of Commerce Board Member, past Jaycee President, past Rotary President, Paul Harris Fellow Rotarian, former McKinney City Council Member, Loyal McKinney High School Lion Fan (having seasons tickets since 1947), former McKinney Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year, former President of the McKinney Industrial Foundation, founding partner of First Savings and Loan of McKinney, former Chairman and founding member of First State Bank of McKinney, and numerous other civic activities. In 1937, he graduated from McKinney High School at the age of 16, entered Texas A & M University and became a member of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band and the Corps of Cadets. After graduating from Texas A & M at 20 years of age in the Class of 1941, he headed off to serve 4 years in the United States Army with all of that time serving as a commanding officer in the Pacific theatre. He retired as a Lt. Colonel serving 23 years in the US Army Reserves and was commander of his quartermaster outfit.

On January 5, 1947, Geldon married Nina Marie Beane. This union produced one son, Roy, Jr.

Mr. Roberts was the younger brother of US Congressman, H. Ray Roberts, and was very active in many of his brother’s campaigns throughout the years. He assisted his father and older sister in many
business ventures in Collin County and the Houston area. Geldon was a proud lifelong Collin County Democrat.

Geldon was very much a “people” person and was always meeting and helping others in any way possible. His outgoing personality and desire for McKinney to grow and prosper made him a public figure, but also a personal friend to many. He was very proud to see the thriving, vibrant community that his beloved McKinney has become today.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Samaritan Inn or the Collin County Advocacy Center in McKinney, Texas. Mr. Roberts had a special place in his heart for all children.

A celebration of Geldon’s life will be held at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, September 6, 2014, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Chapel in Allen, Texas. Roy, Jr. and wife, Nancy and their families welcome all who can come to enjoy food and fellowship to remember GRANDDAD’s life, at their home in Plano, Texas, immediately following the memorial service.
