Roy E. Irwin

Roy E. Irwin, age 85, of Woodbine, Georgia, passed away October 6, 2010, in Woodbine. Roy was born January 20, 1925, in Deport, Texas, to Pleasant E. and Emily F. (Clay) Irwin. He married Emily Armstrong on May 7, 1947, in San Antonio, Texas. Roy proudly served in the United States Air Force. He retired as a Master Sergeant after twenty-eight years of service. He served during World War II, and the Korean Conflict and was a survivor of Iwo Jima. He later worked for the United States Post Office for twenty years. Roy was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner. He is survived by his daughters, Mary McDonald and husband, Buddy of Woodbine, Georgia, Molly DeLaney and husband, Buddy, and Nancy-Jo Van Meter and husband, Greg also of Woodbine, Georgia; son, Thomas Irwin and wife, Bennie of Whitewright, Texas; brother, Richard Irwin of Florida; sister, Barbara of Mississippi; sixteen grandchildren, Stephanie Troy, Chris Bond, Tom Bond, Tim Bond, Nathan Bouchard, Jennifer Kilpatrick, Amber Bradley, Emily Irwin-Seymour, Matt Van Meter, Niki Van Meter, Karrie Elmore, Merrissa Kessingger, Chantae Delaney, Tiffany Blunt, and Jack DeLaney; and thirty-four great-grandchildren, Samantha, Johnathan, Meagan, Jaylen, Eli, Hannah, Dee, Erin, Michael, Alexis, Kylee, Nathan, Eli, Gabe, Nan, Mercedes, Alexis, Kaylee, Beriah, Leonte, Markelle, Tristen, Trenton, Ocie, Dezie, McKenzie, Logan, Syndey, Cheyenne, Michael, Darren, Bailey, Journey, and Hunter. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Emily Irwin, brother, Leo, sisters, Jo, Nancy, and Katherine, and grandson, TJ Kilpatrick. A graveside service will be held at 3:30 p.m., Monday, October 11, 2010, at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation one hour prior to the service.
