Ross John Powell of Carrollton, Texas, passed away on October 25, 2017, at the age of 49. He was born on January 24, 1968, to Lyle John and Delores Ann Dagley Powell in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Ross graduated from the University of Michigan where he majored in business and information systems. He also played baseball at the university and later had a brief career in the major leagues. Ross played for the Cincinnati Reds, Pittsburgh Pirates and Houston Astros. After his baseball career, he owned several baseball fields and baseball facilities. He then went on to own the Lawn Doctor.
Ross is survived by his fiancée, Jennifer Beason, of Carrollton, Texas; sons, Cooper Powell, Cameron Powell, Blaze Beason and Bryce Beason also of Carrollton, Texas; mother, Delores Powell of Greenville, Michigan; sisters, Amy Jo Slabaugh of Midland, Michigan, and Anne Marie Dropp and husband, Brad of Woodstock, Georgia; niece, Chloe Slabaugh; nephews, Brett Slobaugh, Garrett Dropp and Riley Dropp; and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father.
A funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 1, 2017, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas. The family will receive visitors during a visitation on Tuesday evening from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial service will also be held at a later date in Michigan.
