RONALD “RON” HUGH NELSON

Ronald “Ron” Hugh Nelson, age 65, of Frisco, Texas, passed away August 20, 2015 from cancer.  He was born in Inglewood, California on February 3, 1950.   When he was 4 years old, his father passed away, leaving a void in his life.  He loved playing football at Morningside High School in Inglewood, California.  After High School he joined the Army and was stationed in Korea.  There he loved serving his country and his training as an operating room specialist.  His was an adventurous life.

Everyone was his friend.  He had a gift of connecting with anyone who came into his life – even complete strangers.  He always had a humorous story or experience to share.  He truly loved people.   He is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The last years of his life he lived in Las Vegas, Nevada with his son Cameron and his wife Julie.  Then he moved to Frisco, Texas and lived with his son Tim and his wife Candice.  In Frisco, he shared an apt. with his first wife, Penny who helped immensely with the endless trips to the VA Hospital.  He was grateful for the gift of family as he sorted out his life.

Ron married Penny Plotkin on January 31, 1970, later divorced. He married Valerie Gallego November 18, 1978.  He loved his sons:  Timothy (Candice) of Frisco, TX, Steven of Redondo Beach, CA, Cameron (Julie) of Abilene, TX, and Aaron of Redondo Beach, CA.  He is survived by 6 grandchildren whom he adored:  Lance, Ethan, Jonathan, Claire, Elise, and Kairi.  He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Nelson Dunn (Roy) of Salt Lake City, UT, a sister in law, Beverly Nelson Walker (Norm) of Cedar Hills, UT and many other extended family.

Ron is preceded in death by his parents George Hugh Nelson and Glenna LaRay Clyde, and brother Clyde George Nelson.

A special thank you to Tim Nelson and his family who helped carry him to the end – Thank you to the VA Medical Center Dallas, Prairie Estates Skilled Nursing Center and Ardent Hospice.

A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, August 25th at the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 8520 Main St, Frisco, TX 75034.  Visiting time begins at 6:00 p.m. and sharing of memories begins at 7:00 p.m.   Burial will be Wednesday, August 26th at 2:15 p.m. at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.   Donations can be made in Ron's memory to VFW Post 8273 P.O.
