Ronald Wayne Lawson

Ronald Wayne Lawson, age 59, of Allen, Texas, passed away on October 25, 2015. He was born on September 4, 1956 in Andalusia, Alabama to Carl Marvin and Barbara (Nelson) Lawson. 

Ron grew up in Andalusia, Alabama where he graduated from Andalusia High School in 1974. He graduated from Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama in 1983 with a degree in Public Administration. He is a member of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity. During his time as a Pi Kapp at Auburn, he served in various offices, was larger than life and the heart and soul of the Chapter.

Ron married Cheryl McConnell in 1989 and was blessed with two sons, Philip and William, his pride and greatest joy.

Ron was employed by SAFECO in 1986 and worked in claims and marketing in both Alabama and Texas, advancing to Assistant Vice President, Regional Marketing Manager in Texas.

Ron joined The Republic Group in 2004, serving as Vice President of Personal Lines and Vice President of Industry Relations before being named Vice President of Marketing in 2012.

Ron worked tirelessly, contributing his time and talents to his company and the industry as a whole. Coworkers and associates admired Ron as a leader, mentor and an icon of the insurance industry.

Ron was a member of the board of directors of the Insurance Council of Texas (ICT) since 2003. He was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Insurance Council of Texas (ICT) Education Foundation since 2012. He served as the Secretary/Treasurer of the Association of Fire and Casualty Companies of Texas (AFACT). He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA) since 2011. Ron served as a committee member and Secretary/Treasurer of the Texas “Fair Access to Insurance Requirements” (FAIR) Plan Association and was a member of the Agency Company relations committee of the Independent Insurance Agents of Dallas (IIAD). He also served as a Board Member of the Texas Medical Liability Insurance Underwriting Association (JUA).

He was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in McKinney, Texas. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Lawson of Allen, Texas; sons, Philip Lawson and William Lawson of Allen, Texas; mother, Barbara Lawson of Andalusia, Alabama; siblings, Joan Mills and husband Delwyn, Carl Lawson, Jr. and wife Rita, all of Andalusia, Alabama and Sharon Grant and husband Mike of Montgomery, Alabama; nieces, nephews and countless beloved friends.

Ronald is preceded in death by his father, Carl Marvin Lawson, Sr.

A service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 30, 2015 at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 400 North College Street, McKinney, Texas, with Father Michael Hoffman officiating. The family will receive visitors at 11:00 a.m. in the Parrish Hall. Donations to St. Peters, Pi Kappa Phi or Auburn University may be given in lieu of flowers.
