IN LOVING MEMORY

Ronald "Ron" Landy

Mar 20 1935 - Feb 11 2016

Ronald “Ron” Landy passed away on February 11, 2016 at the age of 80 in Frisco, Texas. He fought a valiant battle against cancer until the very end.

Ron was born on the West side of Chicago on March 20, 1935 to Sol and Bertha Landy.   He attended Northern Illinois University where he received both his Bachelors of Science and Master’s Degree in Education.  In 1957, Ron began his long career teaching biology at Elmwood Park High School in Elmwood Park, Illinois and retired in 1997.  In his 40-years of teaching, he impacted the lives of thousands of students and athletes.  Ron served as Chairman of the Math and Science Department as well as head coach for the Tiger’s baseball team and assistant coach for the Elwood Park Football team.

Ron will be remembered for his endearing personality and his zest for life.   His quick wit and ability to be both a stellar teacher, who made learning fun, as well as demanding instructor, who pushed students to achieve their highest goals, was a rare combination.

An avid golfer, racquetball player and fisherman, Ron led an exceedingly active life and has developed relationships with friends that have lasted his lifetime.   A loving father, loyal friend and zaddie to his grandchildren, Ron was always a joy to be around.

Ron is survived by his three children, Rebecca Kopplin and son-in-law Ron Kopplin, Lisa Landy and David Landy.  He has three grandchildren, Noa, Cole and Bayla, as well as siblings Sheldon Landy and Harriet Minkin.   We feel blessed to have had such an amazing father, grandfather and brother who kept us laughing.  His memory will live on in all of us and he will be greatly missed.  What mattered most to Ron was being involved in the lives of his family, friends and students.

There will be a Memorial and Celebration of Ron Landy’s life on March 5th, 2016.

Psalm 23:6

Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
