Robert "Bob" Simon

Mr. Robert “Bob” Simon, age 89, of McKinney, Texas passed away April 20, 2007, in McKinney. He was born February 4, 1918, in Bridgeport, Illinois to Robert Nelson Simon, Sr. and Hazel (Abernathy) Simon. On April 7, 1945, he married Mary Ann Miller in McKinney. Following the death of Mary Ann, he married Martha Lou Wharton on March 31, 1979, in Gainesville, Texas. Mr. Simon served in the U.S. Army and was a bomber pilot in World War II. On two separate occasions he crashed landed his plane with one occasion during the battle at Normandy. He was a graduate of North Texas University and was an air traffic controller at Perrin Air Force Base in Sherman, Texas, where he retired in 1971. He was a member of the First Christian Church in McKinney where he served as a deacon, and currently was serving as an elder at Trinity Presbyterian Church where he was also a member. Mr. Simon was an avid bridge player and golfer with memberships at Hurricane Creek Country Club and McKinney Country Club. He is survived by his wife, Martha Lou Simon; daughter, Nancy Dodson and her husband, Ken of McKinney; and brother, John Simon of Plano, Texas; stepchildren, Katie Price and husband, Pat of Gainesville, Texas and Don Wharton and wife, Paula of Farmers Branch, Texas; and step-grandchildren, Jeff and Flora Wharton, and Joe and Monica Wharton. His parents and his first wife, Mary Ann preceded him in death. A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 23, 2007, at Ridgeview Memorial Park with Rev. Mally Baum and Rev. Don Andrews officiating, opening prayer, Joseph Whitner. Family and friends are invited to the funeral home at their convenience on Sunday to pay their respects and to sign the register book.
