IN LOVING MEMORY

Robert "Bob" F. Snyder

Mar 14 1929 - Nov 08 2015

Robert F. Snyder, known to his friends and family as Bob, passed away November 8, 2015 at the age of 86.  He was born on March 14, 1929 to James Henry and Miriam Faith (Nichols) Snyder in Berlin, New Hampshire.  He grew up in New Hampshire and Maine, graduating from high school in Bucksport Maine in 1947. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on July 29, 1948 and proudly served his country for twenty-two years until he retired in 1970 as a Sgt. Major.  His service included two tours of combat duty in Vietnam. Awards included the National Defense Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation, Bronze Star Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Meritorious Service Medal.

Bob married Karyl Lee Jarvis on November 19, 1960 in Santa Ana, California.   They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Los Angeles California Temple on May 19, 1962.

In January of 1971, Bob began his career as head of security at EDS where he worked for twenty-five years building relationships of mutual respect and admiration with many colleagues who remained dear friends. He was known and appreciated for his genuine concern for each life he encountered. He had a gift for seeing the best in each Individual and helping them recognize and develop their personal strengths.   He retired on May 16, 1996.

Bob devoted his life to his family, his church and community. He served as a bishop, a member of stake high councils, and spent years in serving with the youth of the church. He was a temple ordinance worker in the Dallas, Texas Temple for many years, and served for 18 years as Patriarch of the McKinney and Allen stakes.  He enjoyed cycling and spending time in the outdoors with his family.   He found much joy during his retirement years in volunteering for the American Red Cross and exploring his family roots as he and his wife visited places where his ancestors had lived.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Karyl Snyder of Allen, Texas; daughters, Kara Getman and husband Richard of St. James City, Florida and Katie Snyder of Allen, Texas; grandchildren, Courtney Darden and husband Nick, Garrett Blakley and wife Miranda, Heather Getman, Samantha, Anthony, and Alexandra Medlin, Brooke and Isabella Bartels; great-grandchildren, Tatum and Wesley Blakley; nephew, Alan Bedell; and niece, Sara Philbin.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved sister, Sally Bedell.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 12, 2015 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1404 E. Main St., Allen, Texas. Interment will follow at Fitzhugh Cemetery, Forest Grove Community, Texas.
