Richard Jones (Butch) Montgomery

Mr. Richard Jones (Butch) Montgomery, age 68, of Allen, Texas passed away on Friday, December 19, 2003. Born October 16, 1935, Butch grew up in Kansas City, was an Eagle Scout and graduated from the University of Missouri, Columbia. A captain in the U.S. Army, he served two years in Korea as an artillery officer. He was an executive in the steel business for 44 years, working for Central States Steel, Glazer Steel and Hoover Industries. He was an Elder in the Presbyterian Church, taught youth and adult Sunday School and was active in Bible Study Fellowship and the Emmaus Community. He married the former Betty Ann Harris, who passed away suddenly in 1992, after 35 years of marriage. In 1993, he married former Sharon Nelson and moved to Allen, Texas shortly after, where he was an active member of Trinity Presbyterian Church. He is survived by a brother, Robert Strong (Jack) Montgomery of The Colony, Texas; four children, Elizabeth Ann Dooley of Lafayette, Louisiana, Richard James Montgomery of Fairfax, Virginia, Curtis Nelson of New Orleans, Louisiana and Shari Nelson Arceneaux of Raleigh, North Carolina; and eight grandchildren. His parents, Robert Strong and Helen Elizabeth (Jones) Montgomery preceded him in death. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, December 23, 2003 at the Trinity Presbyterian Church of McKinney with Rev. Patrick McCoy officiating. A cryptside service will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, December 24, 2003 at the Lake Lawn Memorial Park in New Orleans, Louisiana. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM, Monday at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Leukemia Society of North Texas Chapter, 12850 Spurling Dr., Dallas, Texas 75230, 972-239-0959.
