Richard M. "Dick" Hardin

Mr. Richard M. "Dick" Hardin, age 92, of Dallas, Texas, passed away June 14, 2012, in Plano, Texas.  Mr. Hardin was born November 12, 1919, in Columbus, Ohio, to Charles T. and Eva M. Hardin.  He married Betty (Beth) Tarver on October 19, 1941, in Columbus, Ohio.  Mr. Hardin was a graduate of Ohio State University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering.  While attending Ohio State University, he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity where he also served as president.  Mr. Hardin proudly served in the United States Army in World War II, stationed in Italy.  He moved to Texas in June of 1957 to begin a career as a pioneer with Texas Instruments where he was devoted to the design development and implementation of tactical manufacturing cost reductions for transistors and integrated circuits. His work led to being named as a participant in a U.S. Patent granted to TI. He was a key contributor in the development of the American Institute of Industrial Engineers and served as the first president of the first chapter. His participation continued in Dallas where he was recognized as being the oldest member of what is now an international organization. After retiring from TI, he volunteered as a consultant for the SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives) organization.  Mr. Hardin was a member of the Dallas Organ Society and the Venture Sailing Club of Dallas. He and his wife, Beth, enjoyed sailing the many lakes of Texas, Louisiana, Florida, and the open seas of the Florida Keys, the Caribbean, Australia and New Zealand. 

He is survived by his son, Rich Hardin of Richardson, Texas; daughter, Julie Brewton and husband, Tim of Plano, Texas; grandchildren, Frank Hardin and wife Basia of Wakefield, Kansas; Brandon Hardin and wife Shawna of San Antonio, Texas; Russell Hardin and wife Jessica also of San Antonio, Texas; Janet Hardin of Longview, Texas, and Gary Brewton and wife Amy of Green Bay, Wisconsin; great-grandchildren, Brentlee Hardin of Helotes, Texas; Christopher Hardin and Adam Hardin both of Wakefield, Kansas; Noah Hardin, Emily Hardin, and Aliyah Hardin, all of San Antonio, Texas, Henry T. Brewton of Green Bay, Wisconsin; and numerous other loving family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles T. and Eva M. Hardin, wife, Beth Hardin, sons, Bill and Dan Hardin, grandson, Gregory Hardin, and sister, Janet Wright.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 30, 2012, at Christ United Methodist Church, 3101 Coit Rd. (at Parker Rd.) in Plano, Texas, 75075, with Rev. Stacey Piyakhun officiating.
