Richard "Dick" Michael Oberski

Richard Michael “Dick” Oberski, age 88, of Little Elm, Texas passed away on August 31, 2014. He was born on December 2, 1925 in Toledo, Ohio to Lillian Louise (Jacobs) and Michael Oberski. On April 22, 1950, Richard married Vail Marie Coon in Rapid City, South Dakota.

Mr. Oberski enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps at the age of seventeen, and was promoted over the term of his service to the rank of Chief Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force, Strategic Air Command, 717th Bomb Wing; from which he retired. Mr. Oberski served proudly as a combat airman during WWII, the Korean Conflict, and served three tours of duty during the Viet Nam War. Near the end of his career with the Air Force, Mr. Oberski was nominated for the position of Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force, the highest ranking position for an enlisted soldier in the Air Force.

Mr. Oberski went on to complete another full career with the United States Postal Service retiring from USPS as a Supervisor at the Amarillo Distribution Center.

Richard is survived by his wife, Vail Oberski of Little Elm, Texas; four children, Michael Nelson Oberski and his wife, Lisa of Houston, Texas; Vail Annette Sewell of Gardnerville, Nevada; Leslie Louise Decker and her husband, Kevin of Little Elm, Texas; Terri Ione Lazzari and her husband, Alberto of Rowlett, Texas; twelve grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; sister, Marilyn Halker and her husband, Richard of Temperance, Michigan; several nieces and nephews.

Richard is preceded in death by two brothers, Bob and Paul Oberski; two sisters, Arlene Ostachnowicz and Sharon Yovanov; parents, Lillian and Michael Oberski.

He was a hardworking, honorable, and humble man who will be greatly missed by those who loved him.
