Rex Coppedge

Rex Coppedge, age 89, of Plano, Texas passed away April 19, 2008 in Walsenburg, Colorado. He was born September 5, 1918 in Telephone, Texas to William Hooper and Isy (Cobb) Coppedge. Rex proudly served in the United States Army and was a veteran of World War II. On April 20, 1946 he married Vivian Carter in Raleigh, North Carolina. She preceded him in death on December 28, 1990. Rex worked for Charles E. Merrill Publishing Company in Dallas beginning in 1963. He sold textbooks to Texas schools and seven other states. Mr. Coppedge was a member of the Constantine Masonic Lodge in Bonham, Texas. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Plano where he was a member of the Porter Class. The church and the Lions Club meant a great amount to Mr. Coppedge. UMW selected him as The Man of the Year. The laity of the North Texas Conference elected Rex to the Jurisdictional Conference. He served on the Staff-Parish Relations and was elected 20 years to the Annual Conference. A personal pride of Rex’s was being a special friend to so many clergy and his Pastors. He was the one Charter member of the Plano Early Lions Club. During his time with the Lions Club, Rex served those less fortunate for twenty five years. He is survived by his sons, Donald Coppedge and wife, Penny of Cimarron, New Mexico and William Rex Coppedge of Fort Worth, Texas; grandson, Tyson Rex Coppedge and wife, Sabrina of Artesia, New Mexico; great-grandchildren, Adriynn Grace and Layne Carter Coppedge both of Artesia, New Mexico. Preceding him in death were his parents and wife, Vivian Coppedge. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 24, 2008, at the First United Methodist Church, Plano, Texas with Pastor Gary Mueller, Pastor Phil Mercer and Pastor Ralph Burke officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park, Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening beginning at 6:00 p.m., at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home.
