Rev. Ernest C. Herr

Rev. Ernest C. Herr, age 85, of Melissa, Texas and Willsboro, New York, passed away on August 7, 2013.  He was born November 2, 1927, in New York, New York to Ernest Herr and Helen (Rukarberle) Herr.  In August of 1956, Ernest married Clara Sarounie, in New York.

Rev. Herr, a Minister of Word and Sacrament in the Presbyterian Church, USA, served as the pastor of Kingslawn United Presbyterian Church in Brooklyn, New York, from 1959 until 1990, the longest serving minister in the congregation’s history.  Active in the ecumenical movement in the 1960s and in anti-drug campaigns, Rev. Herr graduated from New York University in 1956, Princeton Theological Seminary in 1959, before going on to advanced counseling degrees from NYU and Brooklyn College.  In addition to his service to the church, Rev. Herr served as a counselor at Wingate High School in Brooklyn, New York, and chaplain to the school football team.

He is survived by his children, Mark S. Herr, of Princeton, New Jersey, Philip C. Herr, of Keller, Texas, Claire Herr-Quinn, of Melissa, Texas and nine grand-children.

Rev. Herr is preceded in death by his wife, Clara S. Herr.
