RB Woodard

RB Woodard, age 90, of Plano, Texas, passed away March 24, 2014.  He was the 7th child born to Thomas Edgar and Lillie Mary Frances (Shewbirt) Woodard, on October 22, 1923, in Collin County, Texas. 

After graduation from Blue Ridge High School in 1943, RB moved to Dallas.  He began working for the Dallas Power and Light Company retiring in 1986 after 41 years.  On December 20, 1946, RB married Ruby Dale Richardson in Rockwall, Texas. They remained married for 67years and raised their family in Dallas.

RB accepted Jesus Christ as his savior as he walked down the dirt floor aisle of the community building in Altoga, Texas October 16, 1936. His life of Christian service was further enhanced when he became a Southern Baptist deacon at Ferguson Road Baptist Church in 1956 later serving at Prairie Creek Baptist Church in Plano. RB became a member of the James Ladd Burgess Masonic Lodge and was also Scottish Rite Mason.  He held several offices of honor in these organizations, such as Past Master Mason  and District Deputy.

At DP&L he was a founder of, and served on the Board of the Dallas Power and Light Company Employee Credit Union.  RB was also a member of IBEW International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He enjoyed his seasonal work at the State Fair of Texas for 52 years working among many friends in the Gates Department. 

He is survived by his wife, Ruby Dale (Richardson) Woodard of Plano, Texas; children, Olevia Sparks and husband Joe of Plano, Texas, Angela Veyhl Neal and husband Dr. Cameron Neal of Plano, Texas, Richard Bruce Woodard and wife Tammy of Frankston, Texas, Pamela Jones and husband Preston of San Antonio, Texas; 7 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-granddaughter.

RB has joined his parents, Tom and Mary Woodard; 4 brothers and 5 sisters who preceded him in death.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 27, 2014 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Allen, Texas, with Pastor Bobby Bressman officiating.  Masonic rites will be observed at the Interment and a reception will allow the gathering of his friends and family at Ridgeview Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends during a visitation beginning at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday evening at the funeral home. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Collin County organizations that provide community services of good works: CASA of Collin County, or Minnie’s Food Pantry.
