R. E. “Tommy” Thompson, age 87, of Princeton, Texas, passed away July 31, 2014. Tommy was born August 22, 1926, in Morgan City, Mississippi, to Rufus Edgar and Ethel (Yates) Thompson. He was married to Peggy Jo Sexton on August 12, 1954, in Kentucky. She preceded him in death in 1983. Tommy enlisted into the United States Navy where he proudly served his country while stationed in the South Pacific. He spent his working career as an electrician. Tommy loved fishing, hiking, and gardening. He was a member of Farmersville Church of Christ.
He is survived by his son, Mike Thompson and wife, Penny of Citrus Heights, California; daughter, Lora Hinton of Thackerville, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Andrea Braddock and husband, Sam of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Tessa Lane and husband, Dalton of Florissant, Colorado, Garon Thompson and wife, Marisha of Rancho Cordova, California, and Deirdra Thompson and husband, Drew Gilliland of Citrus Heights, California; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and son-in-law, Larry Hinton.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 4, 2014, at Pecan Grove Cemetery in McKinney, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m., Sunday at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas.
