R. W. Godwin, age 82, of Allen, Texas passed away December 29, 2007 at his home. He was born January 22, 1925, in Tishomingo, Oklahoma to Richard and Stella May (Sanson) Godwin. He served his country in the United States Navy. On October 23, 1947, he married Betty Songer in Plano, Texas. Mr. Godwin was a union carpenter for twenty-five years in California. He worked for the Allen School District for eighteen years before retiring and was a member of First Christian Church in Allen, Texas. He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Betty; son, Rick Godwin of Anaheim, CA; daughters, Donna Gibson of Anaheim, CA and Debbie Geer of Allen, TX; eleven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and sister, Edith Garrett of Plano, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Nell Hurst. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, January 3, 2008, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel with Rev. Terry Mai officiating. Interment will follow at Allen Cemetery. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 9:00 PM.
