Phillip Davidson Thompson

Phillip “Bud”  Davidson Thompson, age 73 of Frisco, Texas, passed away on May 3, 2014 in Frisco, Texas.  He was born on January 28, 1941 in Heavener, Oklahoma to Ivy Loucille Thompson. Bud graduated from Heavener High School in 1959 where he was class President and active in Football and Baseball.  He moved to Dallas, Texas in early 1960 and started working for Texas Instruments.  During his tenure, he held several positions within the company and retired from Raytheon’s EHS team as a safety and environmental specialist in 2010 after 44 years with the company.  He married Ginny Lynn Walkup on April 13th 1968 in Denton, Texas. They had two children, Robin and Phillip Jr. and moved to Frisco, Texas in 1977.  

He was extremely passionate about youth sports and became involved with the community programs as well as the Frisco Independent School District athletic programs.  He was active in the Booster Club and served as President through his children’s high school years. After the high school years his son played football for Sam Houston State University and he was active in following their football program.  Bud’s kind heart and feisty sense of humor and zest for life will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his mother Ivy Loucille Thompson and is survived by his wife of 46 years, Ginny Thompson; children, Robin Phelps and husband Mason, of Frisco, Phillip Thompson, Jr. of McKinney, Texas; grandson, Chaydon Phelps, along with numerous other extended family members and dear friends. A memorial service celebrating Bud’s life will be held at the First United Methodist Church located at 7659 Preston Road Frisco, Texas 75034 on Wednesday May 7th, 2014 at 2pm.
