Peggy Mayfield Shelton

Passed from this life to heaven on Saturday, May 4, 2013. She was born to James E. and Pauline Owens Mayfield in Haynesville, La. on October 1, 1930. Peggy graduated from Haynesville High School and from Hardin-Simmons University - Magna Cum Laude - in Abilene, Tx.

She was a teacher of Latin in Lubbock, Garland, Carrollton, and McKinney schools for many years. She married J. Wendell Shelton in Dallas, Tx on August 16, 1958. She was a wonderful wife, mother and a terrific grandmom. Peggy is survived by her husband of 54 years, two sons, Jay Wendell Shelton and his wife Darla of Allen; Jim Shelton and his wife Vicki of Wylie: grandsons Jay Wylie Shelton, Wesley Graham Shelton, and Colton Matthew Banes. She is also survived by her sister, Patsy Adams and her husband Neal of Bastrop, LA, and a host of family and friends. She was loved and admired by all who met her for her kindness and warm and giving personality.

Peggy was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of McKinney as well as the Owl Club. The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful outpouring of prayers, support , visits, and acts of kindness by members of the Solid Rock BFG and the entire church family during her extended illness. A special thanks is extended to Dr. Malladi Sastry of Plano who provided excellent care for her for over 30 years. Also our thanks   to Dr. Timothy Brinkman and his staff of McKinney. The family is also grateful to Dr. Cherukuri and the staff of Heritage Manor Health Care facility in Plano for their care.

The family will receive friends and mourners Tuesday evening, May 7, in the chapel of First Baptist Church of McKinney, 1615 W. Louisiana Street from 6 to 8 P.M. A funeral service honoring Peggy’s memory will be in the sanctuary of FBC on Wednesday, May 8, at 2 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Solid Rock BFG of First Baptist Church of McKinney, 1615 W. Louisiana, McKinney, TX 75069, the American Lung Association, or a charity of your choice.
