IN LOVING MEMORY

Paul Lewis Williams

Mar 29 1939 - May 17 2015

Paul Lewis Williams was born March 29, 1939 in Waco, Texas to V.T. and Rita Williams passed away on May 17, 2015 in Frisco, Texas

Paul is survived by his wife Laura; his son Paul Williams Jr., daughter-in-law, Kelly; grandchildren Halie and Paul of Kemah, Texas. He is also survived by son Bradley Koetting of New Mexico, and his brother, Tim Williams.

Paul loved his family, Alcoholics Anonymous, and the fashion industry he worked in for many years. He founded his wholesale apparel sales agency in 1975 and was active for many years on the Board of Governors of the Dallas Apparel Mart. He finished his years of service as Chairman of that board.

As a young man, he rode bulls in rodeo and was a Golden Gloves boxing champion. He loved sports and they helped him cope with a challenging early life.

Paul’s early adult life was marked by many adventures and misadventures. While successful in his business and enjoying the lifestyle of a traveling salesman working in the fashion industry, Paul’s addictions and alcoholism took a toll. His last drink was at Willy Nelson’s Fourth of July picnic in 1986. He loved to help others in their search for sobriety, and was a sought-after speaker in Alcoholics Anonymous where he shared his recovery story with humor.

Paul’s other passions include football – college and pro. He played for the University of Houston and was considering a professional team offer until some player friends warned him that he would probably be killed by trying to play at that level.

His skills included the ability to weave his stories into sharp, incisive narratives, keeping listeners enthralled. His brain calculated numbers faster than a calculator, to the amazement of bankers who came up with wrong figures when dealing with him. In such a contest, Paul was always the winner.

Always a dog lover, he truly enjoyed the personalities of his pets and loved them deeply. Paul loved plants and trees, growing many from seedlings into maturity.

Paul lived a good long life and was still making plans for the future on the morning of the day of his passing. As a Christian following the Catholic tradition, Paul surely was welcomed in Heaven by his Lord, and enjoys the company of his friends who went on before him.

A Memorial Service will take place at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at FUMC Frisco, 7659 Preston Road, Frisco TX 75034.
